3.2 Transfer Path Analysis (TPA)

Transfer path analysis studies the transmission of mechanical vibrations of actively vibrating components to the connected passive structures. This is shown schematically in Figure 3‑1, where the nomenclature used at VIBES to describe the different parts of the TPA problem is also enumerated. This table allows the user to connect the figures, equations and terms used in this manual with the actual channel types used within SOURCE.

Many TPA methods exist and can be divided into three main categories: component-based TPA, classic TPA and transmissibility-based TPA. The first two methods rely on explicit force determination of the source (Source Characterization), while the latter only identifies the dominant path contributions in the assembled product considering only responses. Due to the limited applicability of this method, only classic and component-based TPA are implemented in SOURCE.
